Syracuse University offers a variety of masters programs in
the field of communications. These university programs at
the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications are
comprehensive and intense. They last four straight semesters
over the course of one year. These programs impart in depth
knowledge and information and fulfill the needs of a person
looking to get a Masters degree in advertising, journalism,
new media, broadcast, or public relations.
Because Syracuse University is a prestigious and highly
regarded school, the graduates from its programs have an
edge over their competitors and stand a good chance to be
hired when they are finished. In fact, the job placement
rate at Syracuse University is rather high. Syracuse
University has built its reputation by hiring experts in the
field who have a good combination of academic and practical
experience. What's best is that the university acknowledges
merit with or without academic degrees. Sometimes a
professor may not be highly qualified but he will have vast
experience in the field. This is especially true of the
journalism and broadcast programs. Apart from this, all of
the programs give practical hands-on training. The students
gain practical experience even as they learn academically
and write papers.
Many students find that the year long program at Syracuse
University fits their needs better than a two year program.
The student must still accomplish 36 credits (as is the
case for any Masters degree), but it is done in the course
of one year. The semesters are as follows: summer, fall,
spring, summer. One only has to devote a year of time to
the university, rather than staying in the area for two
years. It helps with family and resource planning.
One of the major drawbacks to attending the S.I. Newhouse
School at Syracuse University, however, is cost. As with
any private university, Syracuse can be rather pricey.
While the housing costs are reasonable, tuition runs rather
high. And few scholarships are given. There are no full
tuition scholarships given for any of the masters programs
at Newhouse. This means that even if one manages to obtain
a scholarship, it will not pay for everything. Every
summer, however, need based grants are given to help
students in need with their last semester.
Getting a Masters degree from a reputable university helps
you greatly in your career. The money you spend is a
lifetime investment. With a degree from the Newhouse School
at Syracuse University, you will save a year and start
earning money earlier.
